United Way Regina, FHQ Developments and K+S Potash Canada Partner to Support Literacy with New Initiative
United Way Regina and FHQ Developments have joined forces with K+S Potash Canada to launch a groundbreaking initiative aimed at nurturing the educational journey of young minds. Together, they proudly unveil a truly unique approach to literacy enhancement through the introduction of book vending machines, rewarding young readers with access to free, brand new books which include a strong focus of Indigenous stories by Indigenous authors.
Paige Gignac, Community Investment Specialist at K+S Potash Canada, expressed the significance of this partnership, stating, “Youth + Us is about building partnerships that support tomorrow’s future leaders, innovators, and trailblazers. These partnerships are focused on programs that nourish the growth and development of young people through educational initiatives, like the innovative approach to literacy made possible by United Way Regina and FHQ Developments. These book vending machines are a fun way to encourage learning and we are proud to be part of this initiative for the students at Chief Payepot School.”
At the heart of this initiative lies a profound commitment to empowering youth through the transformative power of literature. By providing easy access to a diverse range of books, the book vending machines aim to ignite a passion for reading while fostering critical thinking and creativity among students.
Furthermore, this initiative takes on added significance with the installation of the two book vending machines at Chief Payepot School, symbolizing a deep reverence for Indigenous storytelling traditions. Explaining the important of this initiative, Justine Stilborn from FHQ Developments stated, “With the gift of the Book Vending Machine to Chief Payepot School, we honour the ancestral power of storytelling, a beacon guiding our Indigenous youth. In the pages of our culture, they discover strength, wisdom, and the path to positively influence their communities —a legacy bound in the spirit of our people.”
The introduction of these book vending machines symbolize a collective commitment to equipping youth with the tools they need to succeed. Through this innovative approach to literacy, United Way Regina FHQ Developments, and K+S Potash Canada, reaffirms the dedication to fostering a future generation of leaders, thinkers, and changemakers.
